Little World: from idea to launched product

Little World is a children's indoor role-play centre in Stafford, Brisbane: themed miniature rooms instead of soft play, for children aged one to eight. It needed to sell timed sessions, parties, private hire and annual passes online before the doors opened, and to do it without paying a marketplace fee on every booking.

The problem

What Little World needed

A new indoor role-play centre needed to sell timed sessions, parties, private hire and annual passes, take payment, cap capacity per session and check families in at the door, without paying per-booking marketplace fees.

The approach

Validate, build, launch, grow

The same four stages we use on every product, applied to this one. How we work.

  1. 01

    Validate

Make sure the opportunity is worth pursuing.

We ran a paid specification session before writing any code. Session times, peak and off-peak pricing, capacity caps, the 24-hour cancellation window, annual pass rules and promo code behaviour were locked in writing with the owner. The scope was split into a Phase 1 booking MVP and a Phase 2 admin suite so the first release stayed small.

  2. 02

    Build

Turn the validated concept into a working product.

The booking flow was built into the centre's existing Next.js site. Visitors pick a date, see live remaining capacity per session, choose from five ticket types, apply a promo code or redeem an annual pass, and pay through Square. Capacity is reserved in a database transaction with a ten-minute hold during checkout. A confirmation email from Resend carries one QR code per booking. Staff manage sessions, special events, passes and attendance from a password-protected admin.

  3. 03

    Launch

    Take the product to market.

The booking system went to production on 2 July 2026 as a quiet soft launch, reachable by direct link for testing while the public site kept its waitlist. Bookings opened to the public for opening day on 1 August 2026.

  4. 04

    Grow

Use real data to improve what comes next.

After the MVP, the admin suite, a walk-in desk with in-venue payment methods, session packs and automated booking reminders shipped on the same codebase. Launch strategy and campaign details follow below.
